Meet Grace:
Kaitlin and I had a wonderful (and tiring) day today at a Horse Rescue. This is Grace. We groomed her after grooming Cricket and mucking stalls. Our friends, Janine and Gabby, invited us to Dreamchaser PMU Horse Rescue to volunteer. We are so glad we went! They have 50 horses on site, goats, sheep, dogs, chickens, exotic birds and a bunny who have all been rescued from somewhere. The horses have one of the saddest stories. Have you ever heard of Premarin? It's a woman's hormone replacement pill. Guess where it comes from: PREgnant MARes uRINe!! How disgusting is that??? What's even more disgusting is what they do to collect it. They have thousands of horses that are lined up in stalls that they can't move, lay down, or walk in and they impregnate the mare and make her stand there through her entire pregnancy and collect her urine. Then she's forced to have the foal in her little stall, they take it from her and sell the foal to a slaughter house. Then they impregnate her again and the cycle starts all over. They keep doing this to her until she can't get pregnant any more and then they sell her to the slaughter house. It's BARBARIC, CRUEL and WRONG!! Please tell your friends, wives, mothers, sisters to stop taking premarin! There are other options that are just as effective and don't cause this inhumane treatment of horses. Seriously, what did women do 25, 50, 100 yrs ago before this heinous act became a big money maker for the drug companies??
Okay, I'm stepping down from my soapbox...
We had a wonderful day with the horses and the people who love them! And, by the way, Gracie is a 2 yr old darlin who is ready for her own stall and people to love her :o)
